The Bangladesh Bank is set to release newly designed Tk 1000, Tk 50, and Tk 20 banknotes in the market starting from June 1, 2025. The announcement was officially made via a press release issued by the Department of Communications and Publications of Bangladesh Bank.
These new banknotes are part of a broader initiative to modernize the national currency while celebrating the country's rich cultural heritage, historical landmarks, and national identity.

The newly redesigned notes feature iconic historical, natural, and cultural symbols of Bangladesh, replacing the traditional portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The initiative is part of a phased plan to introduce a new series of banknotes without political imagery, focusing instead on national heritage.
Bangladesh Bank confirmed that the current paper notes and metal coins will continue to be legally accepted alongside the new series. This ensures a smooth transition and public convenience in handling cash.
To cater to currency collectors, Bangladesh Bank has also issued non-exchangeable specimen notes of Tk 1000, Tk 50, and Tk 20. These collectible items are available for purchase at the Currency Museum in Mirpur, Dhaka.
